You get up early in the morning and come to the seaside. There is no one else but you. You dive into the water, turn toward the endless open sea, and begin to swim without taking your eyes off the horizon. Later, you look back at the shore. Everything looks so tiny. You float on your back, letting yourself go in the calm water. You become one with the gentle movement of the sea. Now, the only sounds in your ears are the water lapping against your body, the hum of cicadas that feels so close despite being far away, and the occasional distant rumble of an engine. Floating on your back, you watch the cloudless sky and reflect, feeling the warmth of the sun on your face. You want to re-evaluate and analyze everything that has preoccupied your life up to this moment, to make peace with it all and draw up a roadmap for the future. In fact, you have tried this many times before. But this time, everything is different. As you lay on the water with your arms wide open, the solution to everything feels so close. With the sound of the waves in your ears and the taste of sea salt on your lips, you ponder in utter tranquility.

Merêverie is a made-up word I created -inspired by this story- by combining mer, the French word for sea, and rêverie, meaning day-dreaming.

I am Burak. Even though many years -so many years- have passed, I have never forgotten the world of theater that I was a part of in my childhood; in fact, I simply haven’t been able to forget it. Something beyond my control has always reminded me of my faith in this world, constantly whispering in my ear that I belong to it. I want to experience everything to the fullest—the thrill of firsts, the scorching grief within, the rush of happiness, the losses, the joy of regaining things you once lost faith in, pride, lies, and anger. I want to observe everything there is about life; I want to debate with people, fight with them, make peace, and find a common ground, one by one. I try to tell the story of life and everything it entails through photographic frames. Would you like to join me?
